Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Panipenem + betamipron** is a fixed-dose intravenous carbapenem antibacterial combination marketed in Japan as **Carbenin**. Panipenem is a broad-spectrum beta-lactam carbapenem that bactericidally inhibits bacterial penicillin-binding proteins, disrupting peptidoglycan cross-linking and cell-wall synthesis. Betamipron is a renoprotective adjunct that reduces renal tubular uptake of panipenem, mitigating panipenem-associated nephrotoxicity. The product is approved in Japan for susceptible bacterial infections across multiple sites, including sepsis, respiratory, urinary, intra-abdominal, biliary, gynecologic, central nervous system, skin and soft-tissue, bone-and-joint, ophthalmic, otolaryngologic, and oral-maxillofacial infections.
