Panitumumab + capecitabine is a combination regimen used primarily in the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer, especially in patients with wild-type RAS tumors. Panitumumab is a recombinant human IgG2 kappa monoclonal antibody that targets and binds specifically to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), blocking ligand-induced activation and downstream signaling involved in cell proliferation, survival, and angiogenesis. Capecitabine is an oral prodrug that is enzymatically converted to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) within the body, where it inhibits DNA synthesis by interfering with thymidylate synthase activity. This combination has been studied as a maintenance therapy following initial chemotherapy regimens, showing potential for prolonging progression-free survival while maintaining an acceptable safety profile[1][2][6].
