Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Azur compositum SC is a fixed-dose combination oral tablet containing 500 mg of paracetamol and 30 mg of codeine phosphate hemihydrate. It is classified as an analgesic combination of a non-opioid (paracetamol) and an opioid (codeine). Paracetamol provides analgesic and antipyretic effects, likely through the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system, while codeine acts as a central analgesic through its conversion to morphine and subsequent agonism of mu-opioid receptors. The drug is indicated for the treatment of acute moderate pain in patients aged 12 years and older when other analgesics like paracetamol or ibuprofen alone are insufficient. It was originally developed by Steiner & Co. and is currently marketed by Aristo Pharma in Germany. The "SC" suffix (sine coffeino) indicates the absence of caffeine, which is present in the standard Azur compositum formulation.
