Azur compositum is a fixed-dose combination analgesic drug developed by Steiner & Co. Deutsche Arzneimittelgesellschaft. It is composed of three active ingredients: paracetamol (acetaminophen), codeine phosphate, and caffeine. Paracetamol acts as a non-opioid analgesic and antipyretic by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system and blocking cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes. Codeine is a selective mu-opioid receptor agonist that alters the perception of pain and the emotional response to pain. Caffeine is included as a central nervous system stimulant that potentiates the analgesic effects of paracetamol and codeine, potentially by increasing their absorption or through its own adenosine receptor antagonism. The drug is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate pain, particularly postoperative dental pain following procedures such as third molar surgery.
