Overview

This combination therapy consists of paracetamol (acetaminophen) and dexketoprofen, the S(+)-enantiomer of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) ketoprofen. Paracetamol acts primarily as a central analgesic and antipyretic, likely through the inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes in the central nervous system, thereby elevating the pain threshold. Dexketoprofen provides potent peripheral analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting both COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, which reduces the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. This dual-action regimen is being evaluated by researchers at Kastamonu University for its efficacy in managing acute pain associated with isolated rib fractures, often in comparison or conjunction with physical therapy techniques like kinesiotaping.
