Parodontax (GSK)

Parodontax is a specialized topical toothpaste formulation containing a high concentration of sodium bicarbonate (67% w/w) and sodium fluoride (0.221-0.31% w/w), developed by GSK Consumer Healthcare for the treatment and prevention of gingivitis. The product works through a dual mechanism: the high concentration of sodium bicarbonate enhances the physical disruption and removal of dental plaque biofilm during brushing, which directly reduces gingival inflammation and bleeding. Simultaneously, sodium fluoride provides anti-caries benefits by promoting the remineralization of tooth enamel and increasing its resistance to acid-producing oral bacteria. Multiple randomized controlled trials have demonstrated that twice-daily use of this high-bicarbonate formulation significantly improves clinical markers of gingival health, such as the Modified Gingival Index (MGI) and Bleeding Index (BI), compared to standard fluoride toothpastes in adults with mild-to-moderate gingivitis.
