Parodontax is a specialized therapeutic oral care brand primarily indicated for the treatment and prevention of gingivitis and the reduction of dental plaque. The modern formulation, particularly in the United States, relies on **stannous fluoride** (0.454%) as its primary active pharmaceutical ingredient. Stannous fluoride provides a dual therapeutic benefit: it acts as an antimicrobial agent by inhibiting bacterial metabolic enzymes (such as enolase) and reducing bacterial adhesion to the tooth surface, and it serves as a remineralizing agent to prevent dental caries. A distinguishing feature of the Parodontax line is its high concentration of **sodium bicarbonate** (baking soda), which physically disrupts the plaque biofilm and neutralizes acidic metabolic byproducts of oral bacteria.
