Paroxetine + lamotrigine is a combination of two small molecule drugs used together, primarily in the treatment of depressive disorders, including unipolar and bipolar depression. Paroxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that increases synaptic serotonin levels by inhibiting its reuptake into presynaptic neurons, thereby exerting antidepressant and anxiolytic effects. Lamotrigine is an anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer that inhibits voltage-sensitive sodium channels, stabilizing neuronal membranes and modulating glutamate release; it has demonstrated efficacy in bipolar depression. The combination may accelerate the onset of antidepressant action compared to paroxetine alone and can be effective for core depressive symptoms[1][4]. There are no significant pharmacokinetic interactions between these agents, but additive central nervous system effects are possible[2].
