paroxetine + quetiapine

Paroxetine + quetiapine is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs, paroxetine and quetiapine, used together primarily in psychiatric practice. Paroxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that increases synaptic serotonin levels by inhibiting its reuptake, thereby exerting antidepressant and anxiolytic effects. Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic with antagonistic activity at multiple neurotransmitter receptors including serotonergic (5-HT2A), dopaminergic (D2), histaminergic (H1), and adrenergic receptors. This combination has been studied as an augmentation strategy for patients with generalized anxiety disorder who remain symptomatic after initial SSRI therapy; however, evidence does not support significant additional benefit from adding quetiapine to ongoing paroxetine treatment in this context[2][3]. The combination may increase the risk of additive central nervous system depression and impairment of judgment or psychomotor skills[1].
