Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Patupilone + carboplatin** is an investigational combination of two chemotherapy drugs: **patupilone (EPO906, also known as epothilone B)**, a microtubule-stabilizing agent, and **carboplatin**, a platinum-based chemotherapeutic. Patupilone binds to and stabilizes tubulin, preventing microtubule disassembly, thereby inhibiting cancer cell division. Carboplatin induces DNA cross-linking and damage, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. This combination has been tested in advanced solid tumors, including platinum-sensitive and platinum-resistant ovarian cancer, to determine safety, maximum tolerated dose, pharmacokinetics, and preliminary efficacy. The combination has shown antitumor activity and acceptable tolerability in phase Ib studies, with main toxicities including diarrhea, fatigue, neuropathy, and hematologic adverse events[1][2][5].
