Overview

Pazopanib + interferon alfa-2a is a combination of two agents with antineoplastic and immunomodulatory properties. Pazopanib is a small molecule, orally available, multitargeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor that blocks vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1 (VEGFR1), vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2), and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 3 (VEGFR3); platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFRα) and platelet-derived growth factor receptor beta (PDGFRβ); and mast/stem cell growth factor receptor Kit (c-kit). This inhibition disrupts angiogenesis pathways critical for tumor blood vessel formation, leading to reduced tumor growth and survival[1][4][6]. Interferon alfa-2a is a recombinant protein form of human type I interferon that binds to type I interferon receptor (IFNAR), activating the JAK/STAT pathway to induce antiviral proteins and modulate immune responses. It has been used as an antiviral or antineoplastic agent in various cancers and viral infections[2][8]. The combination may be explored for synergistic effects in oncology by combining antiangiogenic activity with immune modulation.
