Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PCD-04 is a liposomal formulation of **alprostadil** (prostaglandin E1) being developed by **LTT Bio-Pharma** for the prevention of **anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity**, particularly in patients with **breast cancer**. Anthracyclines are potent chemotherapeutic agents whose clinical utility is often limited by dose-dependent, irreversible cardiotoxicity. PCD-04 utilizes a proprietary drug delivery system (DDS) that encapsulates alprostadil within lipid microspheres, designed to enhance the stability and targeted delivery of the prostaglandin to damaged vascular endothelium and myocardial tissue. The mechanism of action involves the activation of prostaglandin E receptors (EP receptors), which promotes vasodilation, inhibits platelet aggregation, and exerts cytoprotective effects by reducing oxidative stress and apoptosis in cardiomyocytes. Clinical development has focused on evaluating its safety and efficacy in preventing cardiac dysfunction in patients undergoing anthracycline-based chemotherapy regimens.
