Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PCV20 + LVA is a combination vaccine composed of the 20-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV20) and 1 mg of LVA immunoadjuvant. PCV20 is designed to protect against invasive disease and pneumonia caused by 20 different serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae. The vaccine is made of purified capsular polysaccharides from these serotypes, each conjugated to the CRM197 carrier protein, which enhances immune response. The LVA component is an immunoadjuvant intended to further boost the immunogenicity of the vaccine. This combination is under investigation, with one formulation (PCV-LITE) consisting of a 1/5th dose of PCV20 plus 1 mg LVA, and another with a full dose of PCV20 plus 1 mg LVA. PCV20 is manufactured by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals (Pfizer). The principal indication is the prevention of invasive disease and pneumonia caused by S. pneumoniae. The LVA adjuvant enhances the immune response to the vaccine antigens[1][2][7].
