Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PCV21 (also known as GBP410) is a 21-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine being developed by Sanofi in collaboration with SK bioscience. It is designed to prevent invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) and pneumonia caused by *Streptococcus pneumoniae*. The vaccine expands upon the coverage of the licensed 13-valent vaccine (PCV13) by including 8 additional serotypes, providing broader protection against circulating strains. PCV21 utilizes a dual-carrier protein conjugation technology, where 17 serotypes are conjugated to the CRM197 diphtheria carrier protein and 4 serotypes are conjugated to tetanus toxoid. It is currently in Phase 3 clinical trials evaluating its safety and immunogenicity in healthy infants and toddlers, as well as in adult populations. Sanofi holds global commercialization rights for the vaccine, except in South Korea where SK bioscience retains rights.
