Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pearlium + EffectiCal is a novel calcium, vitamin D, and mineral formulation developed by the University of Alberta to optimize calcium solubility and absorption. The product's base formulation, known as Formulation A5, has shown a three-fold increase in calcium retention compared to conventional calcium carbonate in preclinical studies. This enhanced bioavailability allows for a lower therapeutic dose, which is intended to minimize common gastrointestinal side effects such as constipation. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials for the prevention of bone loss in postmenopausal women, where its efficacy is measured by the suppression of bone turnover markers.
