Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pediacel + Hib (often referred to simply as Pediacel) is a fully liquid, pentavalent (5-in-1) combination vaccine developed by Sanofi Pasteur. It is designed for active immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), poliomyelitis, and invasive Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) infections in infants and young children. The vaccine contains diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, a five-component acellular pertussis component (pertussis toxoid, filamentous hemagglutinin, pertactin, and fimbriae types 2 and 3), inactivated poliovirus (types 1, 2, and 3), and Hib capsular polysaccharide conjugated to a tetanus toxoid carrier protein, adsorbed onto an aluminum phosphate adjuvant. In clinical trials, such as the Dutch DCOG ALL-10 study sponsored by the University Medical Center Utrecht, Pediacel + Hib has been evaluated for early revaccination regimens in pediatric patients recovering from chemotherapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia to restore protective antibody levels.
