Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PEG-Au@SiO2-SNO is an experimental PEGylated gold nanorod@mesoporous-silica nanocomposite bearing **S-nitrosothiol nitric-oxide donor groups**. Near-infrared irradiation produces photothermal heating from the gold nanorod core, which accelerates nitric oxide release from the S-nitrosothiol groups and enables combined mild photothermal and nitric-oxide gas therapy. It was reported in preclinical MCF-7 breast-cancer models; the published broader treatment formulation additionally loaded the HSP70 inhibitor 2-phenylethynesulfonamide, but PES is not a component of PEG-Au@SiO2-SNO itself.
