Combination of **pegaptanib**, an anti-VEGF aptamer that specifically inhibits the VEGF165 isoform, and **verteporfin**, a photosensitizer used in photodynamic therapy (PDT). Pegaptanib blocks vascular endothelial growth factor-mediated neovascularization and vascular permeability, while verteporfin, when activated by nonthermal laser light, generates reactive oxygen species leading to selective damage of abnormal neovascular tissue. This combination is investigated to synergistically treat choroidal neovascularization in wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), aiming for improved efficacy and reduced retreatment frequency compared to monotherapy[1][2][4].
