Peginterferon + tenofovir + emtricitabine

Peginterferon + tenofovir + emtricitabine is a combination regimen used primarily in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and, less commonly, for HIV/HBV coinfection. Peginterferon is a pegylated form of interferon alfa, an immunomodulatory cytokine that enhances the host antiviral response by inducing interferon-stimulated genes and promoting immune-mediated clearance of infected hepatocytes. Tenofovir and emtricitabine are both nucleoside/nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) that inhibit viral replication by causing chain termination during viral DNA synthesis. This combination may be used when dual antiviral therapy is indicated or when there is concern for resistance or coinfection with HIV.
