peginterferon alfa + boceprevir

A combination regimen of **peginterferon alfa** (including alfa-2a or alfa-2b) and **boceprevir**, primarily used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1 infection. Boceprevir is an oral NS3 serine protease inhibitor that works by directly inhibiting HCV replication. Peginterferon alfa is a pegylated interferon stimulating the immune response against HCV. This combination is always used with **ribavirin**. The triple therapy (boceprevir + peginterferon alfa + ribavirin) was a standard of care before the introduction of newer direct-acting antivirals, resulting in sustained virological response (SVR) rates over 80% in some populations.
