Overview
Peginterferon alfa-1b + valacyclovir is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents with antiviral properties. Peginterferon alfa-1b is a pegylated form of recombinant human interferon alpha that acts as an agonist at the interferon alpha/beta receptor 1 and 2, activating the JAK/STAT pathway and upregulating genes involved in the innate antiviral response. It is primarily used for chronic hepatitis C treatment[2][6]. Valacyclovir (also known as valaciclovir) is an oral prodrug of acyclovir classified as a nucleoside analog DNA polymerase inhibitor. After absorption, it is rapidly converted to acyclovir, which inhibits viral DNA polymerase and terminates viral DNA chain elongation. Valacyclovir is used to treat herpesvirus infections such as genital herpes, cold sores, shingles (herpes zoster), and chickenpox[3][4][1].
