pegylated interferon-alpha 2b-Ochsner Health System-melanoma refers to a combination immunotherapy regimen investigated in a Phase II clinical trial (NCT00705640) for the treatment of advanced, recurrent, or refractory melanoma. The regimen consists of peginterferon alfa-2b (PEG-Intron) and the HyperAcute Melanoma vaccine (dorgenmeltucel-L). Peginterferon alfa-2b is a pegylated biologic that acts as an agonist for the type I interferon receptor (IFNAR), modulating the immune system and exerting antiproliferative effects on tumor cells. Dorgenmeltucel-L is an allogeneic whole-cell cancer vaccine composed of three human melanoma cell lines genetically modified to express alpha-1,3-galactosyl epitopes (alpha-gal). These epitopes trigger a hyperacute immune rejection of the vaccine cells, which enhances the recruitment of antigen-presenting cells and stimulates a systemic T-cell response against the patient's own melanoma-associated antigens. The trial was sponsored by Ochsner Health System to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this combined approach.
