peginterferon lambda-1a + ribavirin

Combination of **peginterferon lambda-1a** (PEG-IFN-λ1a), a pegylated recombinant human type III interferon, and **ribavirin**, a nucleoside analogue antiviral. Peginterferon lambda-1a binds a unique type III interferon receptor with restricted tissue distribution, leading to antiviral activity against hepatitis C virus (HCV) with fewer hematologic and extrahepatic side effects than type I interferons[1][3][5]. Ribavirin inhibits viral RNA synthesis through multiple mechanisms and acts synergistically with interferons[1]. Developed and tested primarily for chronic hepatitis C infection in adult patients, especially genotype 1, including those relapsed after standard therapy[1][2][3][7][8]. The combination is administered as subcutaneous injections of PEG-IFN-λ1a and daily oral ribavirin, and is evaluated both as dual and triple therapy with other antivirals.
