Pegylated interferon lambda + entecavir is a combination therapy used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, leveraging the complementary mechanisms of pegylated interferon and entecavir. Pegylated interferon lambda (typically peginterferon alfa-2a or alfa-2b, but lambda is less commonly used than alpha forms) is a long-acting form of interferon that stimulates the host immune response against HBV, while entecavir is a nucleoside analogue that inhibits HBV DNA polymerase, preventing viral replication. The combination is employed in various regimens (simultaneous, sequential, add-on) to improve rates of HBsAg clearance ("functional cure"), especially in cases where monotherapy is insufficient. Several studies support the efficacy and safety of this combination in both adults and children, with additive effects on viral suppression and serological improvement[1][2][3]. It can be used in special populations or difficult-to-treat cases but is not routinely first-line for all patients.
