Overview

Pegylated thymosin alpha 1 + adefovir is an experimental combination therapy consisting of two active agents: pegylated thymosin alpha 1 and adefovir. **Pegylated thymosin alpha 1** is a pegylated form of thymosin alpha 1, a synthetic 28-amino acid peptide with immunomodulatory and immune-boosting properties, considered for use as an immunotherapy in chronic viral infections and cancer. Thymosin alpha 1 acts primarily by stimulating T lymphocyte differentiation and function, activating Toll-like receptors TLR-2 and TLR-9, enhancing dendritic cell activity, and upregulating cytokines that promote antiviral and antitumor immune responses. Pegylation increases its half-life and stability. **Adefovir** is a nucleotide analog antiviral agent that inhibits hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA polymerase by acting as a chain terminator, leading to suppression of HBV replication. The combination is theoretically aimed at synergistically boosting immune response (thymosin alpha 1) while directly inhibiting viral replication (adefovir), with potential application in chronic hepatitis B. There is limited clinical data specifically for pegylated thymosin alpha 1 + adefovir, but both agents are established as monotherapies or in other combinations for HBV and related indications[2][3][6].
