Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination regimen consisting of three agents: - **Pembrolizumab** is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets the programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) receptor on T cells, blocking its interaction with PD-L1 and PD-L2. This releases the inhibition of immune responses against tumor cells, enhancing antitumor immunity. - **Carboplatin** is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent that causes DNA crosslinking and damage, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cancer cells. - **Albumin-bound paclitaxel (nab-paclitaxel)** is a formulation of the microtubule inhibitor paclitaxel bound to albumin nanoparticles. It disrupts microtubule function during cell division, resulting in mitotic arrest and apoptosis. This combination has been studied as first-line therapy for several cancers including metastatic squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), recurrent/metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), breast cancer, endometrial carcinoma, and others. The regimen leverages both immunotherapy (pembrolizumab) and cytotoxic chemotherapy for synergistic antitumor effects[1][3][5][6][8].
