Overview

This combination regimen consists of systemic **pembrolizumab** (an anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody) and intravesical chemotherapy using **gemcitabine** and **docetaxel**. It is specifically being investigated for patients with high-risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) who are unresponsive to or have been exposed to Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) therapy. Pembrolizumab works by blocking the PD-1/PD-L1 pathway to enhance the immune response against tumor cells, while gemcitabine and docetaxel provide local cytotoxic effects within the bladder. The regimen is currently being evaluated in a Phase II study sponsored by the Bladder Cancer Latin American Group (BLATAM).
