pemoxatide (Hansoh Pharma)

Pemoxatide (also known as HS-10370 or pemtomstat) is a novel peptide-based hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor (HIF-PHI) developed by Hansoh Pharma. It is the first peptide HIF-PHI to be approved globally, receiving marketing authorization in China in 2023. The drug works by inhibiting the prolyl hydroxylase enzymes (PHD1, PHD2, and PHD3) that normally facilitate the degradation of HIF-α under normoxic conditions. By stabilizing HIF-α, pemoxatide promotes the transcription of genes involved in erythropoiesis, including erythropoietin (EPO) and proteins responsible for iron absorption and transport. Unlike most other HIF-PHIs which are oral small molecules, pemoxatide is a cyclic peptide administered via weekly subcutaneous injection. It is indicated for the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in both non-dialysis and dialysis-dependent adult patients.
