Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pendulum Glucose Control is a multi-strain probiotic supplement developed by Pendulum Therapeutics, containing a proprietary blend of five live bacterial strains—*Akkermansia muciniphila*, *Clostridium butyricum*, *Clostridium beijerinckii*, *Anaerobutyricum hallii*, and *Bifidobacterium infantis*—along with the prebiotic chicory inulin. Originally designed and marketed for the management of type 2 diabetes to improve glucose control and A1C levels, the formulation is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1 clinical trial at the University of Cincinnati for its potential to mitigate radiation-induced gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity in patients receiving pelvic radiotherapy. The therapeutic rationale is based on the ability of these specific strains to restore gut microbiome homeostasis and strengthen the intestinal barrier; notably, *A. muciniphila* is thought to promote mucus layer maintenance and epithelial repair, thereby reducing the severity of GI symptoms associated with radiation-induced injury.
