Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination drug consisting of pentoxifylline and folic acid. Pentoxifylline is a synthetic dimethylxanthine derivative that improves blood flow through blood vessels by exhibiting hemorheological, anti-oxidative, and anti-inflammatory properties. Folic acid is used to treat folic acid deficiency and various types of anemia. When combined, these medications appear to have a synergistic effect in patients with chronic kidney disease, particularly for delaying the initiation of hemodialysis in patients with advanced CKD who are on erythropoiesis-stimulating agent treatment.
