Pentoxifylline + rifaximin is a combination of two small molecule drugs used experimentally for the treatment of liver-related complications, particularly in patients with hepatopulmonary syndrome and alcoholic hepatitis. Pentoxifylline is a methylxanthine derivative that acts as a non-selective phosphodiesterase inhibitor, improving microcirculation and reducing inflammation by inhibiting tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) synthesis.
