Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This inhaled aromatherapy intervention is a specific blend of three essential oils—peppermint oil (*Mentha x piperita*), lemon oil (*Citrus limon*), and ginger oil—developed by the Centre François Baclesse for the management of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV). Currently being evaluated in the CINVAROM Phase 2 clinical trial, the intervention is administered via dry inhalation using a stick. It is designed as a non-pharmacological, complementary approach for oncology patients with solid tumors to alleviate symptoms where traditional antiemetics may be insufficient or to reduce the pharmaceutical burden. The mechanism of action is thought to involve the stimulation of olfactory pathways by volatile compounds, which may modulate the emetic response in the central nervous system, rather than targeting specific molecular receptors like conventional pharmaceuticals.
