peptide YY (3-36)

Peptide YY (3-36) is a naturally occurring 34-amino acid peptide (a truncated form of the 36-amino acid PYY) that acts as a selective agonist for the Neuropeptide Y receptor type 2 (NPY2R). It is secreted by the L-cells of the gastrointestinal tract in response to food intake and is a key mediator of postprandial satiety. University College London (UCL) is investigating an oral solution formulation of PYY (3-36) to explore the mechanistic role of lingual PYY receptors in regulating appetite, energy intake, and food preference. By targeting receptors on the tongue and in the oral cavity, this approach aims to understand how early sensory signaling of PYY contributes to weight management and the treatment of obesity.
