Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Perfluorohexyloctane + omega-3 fatty acid ethyl esters is a topical ophthalmic combination therapy developed by Novaliq for the treatment of dry eye disease (DED) and Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). The formulation consists of perfluorohexyloctane, a semifluorinated alkane that acts as a surfactant to stabilize the lipid layer of the tear film and significantly reduce evaporation, and concentrated omega-3 fatty acids (ethyl esters) which provide anti-inflammatory benefits to the ocular surface. Marketed under the brand name NovaTears+Omega-3, this water-free and preservative-free solution is designed to improve the quality of the tear film and alleviate symptoms of ocular irritation. It is particularly effective for patients with evaporative dry eye, where the lipid layer is deficient and the tear film is unstable.
