Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Perflutren lipid microsphere** is an intravenously administered ultrasound contrast agent used in the University of Nebraska-led MRUSMI sonothrombolysis approach for acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. The intervention uses Definity microbubbles together with high-mechanical-index pulses from a diagnostic echocardiography transducer before and after percutaneous coronary intervention. Ultrasound-induced microbubble cavitation generates localized mechanical shear forces intended to disrupt epicardial and microvascular thrombi, improve coronary and myocardial microvascular perfusion, reduce microvascular obstruction, and limit infarct injury. Definity is otherwise an approved echocardiographic contrast agent manufactured by Lantheus.
