Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This experimental cell-based therapy, developed by the Air Force Military Medical University in China, utilizes allogeneic periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) for the treatment of chronic periodontitis. The therapy involves the fabrication of PDLSC sheets from donor teeth, which are then prepared as either cell sheet pellets or cell sheet fragments. These sheets are designed to conserve the extracellular matrix (ECM), maintain cell vitality, and promote cell adhesion and proliferation at the site of periodontal destruction. By utilizing the regenerative capacity of mesenchymal stem cells, the therapy aims to restore periodontal tissue components, including the periodontal ligament, cementum, and alveolar bone. It is typically administered via implantation into periodontal defects, often in combination with bone grafting materials like Bio-Oss to facilitate tissue regeneration.
