Overview

This personalized chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy is an autologous cell-based immunotherapy developed by Xuanwu Hospital, Beijing, in collaboration with several biotechnology firms. The treatment involves engineering a patient's own T cells using a lentiviral vector to express CARs specific to one or more tumor-associated antigens, including EGFRvIII, IL13Rα2, HER2, EphA2, CD133, and GD2, depending on the individual's tumor expression profile. The therapy may also be designed to express anti-PD-L1 antibodies to enhance anti-tumor activity within the immunosuppressive microenvironment of malignant gliomas. It is currently being investigated in a Phase 1 pilot study for patients with recurrent high-grade gliomas, such as glioblastoma and anaplastic astrocytoma.
