**Pfs230D1-EPA + R21** is a combination malaria vaccine candidate intended to block the transmission of *Plasmodium falciparum*, the parasite causing malaria, from humans to mosquitoes. It is conjugated to *ExoProtein A* (EPA), a recombinant carrier protein from *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, to enhance immunogenicity[1][2][5]. - **R21**: R21 is a recombinant protein based on the *circumsporozoite protein* (CSP) of *P. falciparum*, primarily targeting the pre-erythrocytic (liver) stage of malaria[2]. Both components are typically adjuvanted with Matrix-M to further improve immune responses. This combination is in early-stage clinical development (Phase 1) as a malaria transmission-blocking vaccine (TBV), meant to generate antibodies that can interrupt the lifecycle of the parasite in mosquitoes and reduce malaria transmission in endemic populations[2]. The vaccine is administered intramuscularly.
