Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Pfs25 VLP-FhCMB + Alhydrogel** is an investigational malaria transmission-blocking vaccine. It consists of virus-like particles (VLPs) containing the recombinant *Plasmodium falciparum* Pfs25 antigen fused to Alfalfa mosaic virus coat protein, produced in *Nicotiana benthamiana* plants using a recombinant vector. The Pfs25 component targets sexual-stage parasites (gametes, zygotes, ookinetes) within the mosquito midgut to prevent transmission. Formulated with the aluminum hydroxide-based adjuvant Alhydrogel, the vaccine induces anti-Pfs25 antibodies that inhibit *P. falciparum* development in mosquitoes. It is developed for intramuscular administration and is under evaluation for safety and immunogenicity in humans as a transmission-blocking strategy[1][3][5][7].
