Overview
This is an investigational combination therapy consisting of oral phentermine and intramuscular vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) injections. Phentermine is a sympathomimetic amine that acts as an appetite suppressant by stimulating the release of norepinephrine in the hypothalamus, primarily through its action on the norepinephrine transporter and trace amine-associated receptor 1. Vitamin B12 is included as a weekly injection to potentially enhance metabolic function and weight loss effects, although its specific contribution to the efficacy of this combination is the subject of clinical investigation. The therapy was evaluated in a pilot randomized controlled trial led by Dr. Michael Lang at East Carolina University (ECU Physicians) for the treatment of obesity, comparing the combination's weight loss outcomes against phentermine monotherapy.
