Overview

Phenylephrine + tropicamide is a fixed-dose ophthalmic mydriatic combination. Tropicamide is a muscarinic anticholinergic that inhibits cholinergic constriction of the iris sphincter and ciliary muscle, while phenylephrine hydrochloride is an alpha-1 adrenergic agonist that contracts the iris dilator muscle. Together, they produce short-term pupillary dilation for diagnostic ophthalmic procedures and other settings requiring mydriasis. The FDA-approved microdose ophthalmic-spray presentation is marketed in the United States as MydCombi, containing tropicamide 1% and phenylephrine hydrochloride 2.5% and delivered using Eyenovia's Optejet dispenser.
