Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS) is a water-based salt solution containing sodium chloride and phosphate buffer. In the context of clinical trials conducted by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) for HIV infection, PBS is utilized as a placebo control. It is an isotonic solution designed to maintain a stable pH, serving as a non-therapeutic comparator to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of experimental vaccines, such as adenoviral vector (VRC-HIVADV014-00-VP) and DNA-based (VRC-HIVDNA009-00-VP) HIV vaccine candidates.
