phytate + fluoride

Experimental topical dental formulations developed by GSK for the prevention and treatment of dental caries. These formulations combine fluoride (typically 1150 ppm as sodium fluoride) with varying concentrations of phytate (0.425% or 0.85%). Fluoride acts as a primary remineralizing agent by promoting the formation of fluorapatite on tooth enamel and inhibiting demineralization. Phytate is included as a surface-active agent intended to enhance extrinsic stain removal and prevention. Clinical research using in situ caries models in adults has demonstrated that the addition of phytate does not impair the remineralization efficacy of fluoride. Some experimental variants also incorporate zinc chloride and sodium citrate for additional oral health benefits.
