Overview
Picosalax + prucalopride + bisacodyl is a multi-component bowel preparation regimen evaluated by Queen's University for optimizing colon cleansing prior to colon capsule endoscopy. The regimen combines Picosalax (a fixed-dose combination of the stimulant laxative sodium picosulfate and the osmotic agent magnesium citrate, formed from magnesium oxide and citric acid), the prokinetic agent prucalopride (a selective 5-HT4 receptor agonist), and the stimulant laxative bisacodyl. This combination is designed to provide superior mucosal visualization and facilitate the transit of the endoscopic capsule through the colon by simultaneously stimulating peristalsis and increasing intraluminal water retention. It was specifically investigated as an alternative to standard polyethylene glycol (PEG) regimens to reduce turbid fluid in the colon during capsule endoscopy.
