Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A novel pharmacological compound combining pilocarpine (a miotic agent), brimonidine (an alpha-adrenergic agonist), oxymetazoline (a selective alpha1-adrenergic receptor agonist), hyaluronic acid, and bromfenac (a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug). This combination is being investigated for the treatment of presbyopia to improve uncorrected near vision in presbyopic patients. The formulation likely works through multiple mechanisms: pilocarpine creates a pinhole effect by constricting the pupil, brimonidine and oxymetazoline may help counteract some side effects of pilocarpine, hyaluronic acid likely serves as a lubricant, and bromfenac may reduce inflammation and prolong the effects of pilocarpine.
