pioglitazone + glimepiride

Pioglitazone + glimepiride is a fixed-dose oral combination medication used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise. It contains two active ingredients: - Pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione that increases insulin sensitivity in fat, muscle, and liver cells. - Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea that stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin. This combination is indicated for adults with type 2 diabetes who are already treated with both drug classes or have inadequate glycemic control on either agent alone. It is not effective for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. The most common side effects include upper respiratory tract infections, hypoesthesia (reduced sense of touch), bone fractures, weight gain, dizziness, flatulence (gas), and edema (swelling)[1][4][5][8].
