Peomet-15 is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product containing pioglitazone and metformin hydrochloride, developed and marketed by Forgo Pharmaceuticals. It is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Pioglitazone belongs to the thiazolidinedione class and acts as a potent agonist for the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-γ), which regulates the transcription of insulin-responsive genes involved in glucose and lipid metabolism, thereby improving insulin sensitivity. Metformin is a biguanide that lowers blood glucose levels by inhibiting hepatic glucose production (gluconeogenesis), decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
