Overview
Pirfenidone + methylprednisolone is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used primarily in the management of fibrotic and inflammatory lung diseases. Pirfenidone is an orally administered small molecule with antifibrotic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, approved for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Its mechanism involves modulation of tumor necrosis factor pathway and cellular oxidation, though it is not fully understood. Methylprednisolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects, widely used to treat various inflammatory and autoimmune conditions.
