Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pitavastatin + ceftobiprole is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents with distinct mechanisms and indications. Pitavastatin is an oral small molecule statin used to lower high cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood while increasing HDL cholesterol. It works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis[1]. Ceftobiprole is a fifth-generation injectable cephalosporin antibiotic (marketed as Zevtera) indicated for the treatment of Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infections (bacteremia), acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI), and community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP). Ceftobiprole acts by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), including PBP2a in MRSA strains, thereby inhibiting cell wall synthesis and causing bacterial cell death[2][3][4][5][6].
