Overview

pl-doxorubicin + epirubicin is a combination of two anthracycline chemotherapeutic agents used in cancer treatment. Pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD) is a formulation of doxorubicin encapsulated in pegylated liposomes, which alters its pharmacokinetics to prolong circulation time and reduce toxicity, particularly cardiotoxicity. Epirubicin is an epimer of doxorubicin with similar efficacy but a different toxicity profile, notably reduced cardiac risk. Both drugs act primarily by intercalating into DNA and inhibiting topoisomerase II, leading to DNA damage and cell death. This combination may be considered for neoadjuvant or adjuvant chemotherapy regimens in breast cancer and potentially other solid tumors[1][7]. The use of both agents together aims to maximize antitumor activity while managing cumulative toxicity.
